Synapse Product Development was founded under a single guiding principle—to make it “the best job anyone has ever had.”
That was 2002 when the company was little more than 4 out-of-work engineers with a shared desire for solving really difficult problems. Since then, Synapse has evolved from a traditional boutique engineering firm to a pioneer in global innovation, all while maintaining an emphasis on people before profit. As a result, Synapse is the rare innovation firm to combine raw engineering services with a vibrant company culture, two elements that have attracted regional start-ups and the world’s top Fortune 500 companies.
Occupying a unique position within the industry, Synapse has built a large, multi-disciplinary team in an environment that encourages cross-collaboration. Beginning with a focus on mechanical and electrical engineering, Synapse quickly broadened in 2005 to include software engineering as a core component of its offerings. Soon after, Synapse experienced exponential growth—from a 50-person firm in 2009 to a 200-person firm in 2012.
To continue growing sustainably, Synapse expanded its business to include a presence in Hong Kong and the opening of a San Francisco office in Fall 2011.
To date, Synapse’s mix of expertise and teamwork has played an integral role in the development of technologies such as the first hand-held computer and the first touch-screen portable music device—two breakthrough devices now considered commonplace in the consumer market. No matter the project, Synapse’s philosophy has remained the same—to match talented, entrepreneurial people with a groundbreaking concept so it can become a reality.
