About Synapse’s San Francisco Office

Synapse’s San Francisco site, which will accommodate the office’s planned growth in the years ahead, offers proximity to transit as well as the amenities of the SoMa neighborhood. Here, the growing group of about thirty Synapsters balances focus with fun. Electrical Engineering at Synapse

Synapse’s Electrical Engineering team helps design cool, innovative products for the consumer and industrial spaces by partnering with a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, software, quality assurance, and new product introduction engineers. Whether prototyping PCBs for a space-constrained embedded device or modeling and building a custom antenna, Synapse’s electrical and RF engineers bring an attitude of fun, flexibility, and fearlessness to an ever-changing array of exciting design challenges.

 Major Job Functions

  • Collaboratively engage with colleagues from other disciplines (Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Project Management, and Business Development) to deliver awesome end products to clients and enable amazing experiences for end users
  • Significantly contribute to electrical product design, test, and verification from requirements through introduction into manufacturing
  • Provide product development strategy and leadership to enable clients to make the best decision
  • Engage directly with clients (both technical and non-technical) to understand and inform their requirements and needs. Develop HW and system architectures to achieve those objectives
  • Create detailed power / digital / analog / mixed-signal board-level designs across a broad range of products and industries
  • Significantly contribute to electrical product design, test, and verification from requirements through introduction into manufacturing
  • Support the Synapse Business Development team in new project scoping and client interaction throughout all stages of product development
  • Provide oversight in technical design reviews for other team members
  • Provide mentoring and technical development guidance to other members of the team
  • Lead small teams of engineers to achieve project objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner



  • 10+ years of product development experience (concept to production) including design for test and manufacturing
  • Previous track record of success in developing electronic hardware
  • Experience with highly-concurrent, collaborative, multi-disciplinary (firmware/ software/ mechanical/ manufacturing) programs 
  • High degree of comfort with ambiguity in early phase investigative projects and a proven track record to create development strategies based on ambiguous requirements
  • Ability to rapidly decipher and prioritize amongst competing specifications, constraints, and requirements
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to take ownership and find innovative solutions that drive results
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills required, presentation skills are highly desired
  • BS or advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent combination of experience and education


  • 10+ years of circuit design experience with significant emphasis on mixed signal and embedded system hardware design
  • Experience with linear and switch mode power supplies for portable electronics
  • Experience with charging and protection circuits for Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer batteries
  • Experience with bringing microprocessor based products to market
  • Experience overseeing PCB layouts, preferably in Allegro or Altium
  • Previous experience with RF/wireless systems and concepts is a plus
  • Previous experience with high-volume manufacturing of products is a plus
