Ian has held multiple roles on the Mechanical Engineering and Program Management teams at Synapse. During his tenure at Synapse he has worked on a wide variety of projects from high volume consumer products with complex injection molding and packaging challenges to one-off prototypes to support scientific research and the development of novel new technologies. Ian has been the lead mechanical engineer on projects with complex thermal and fluid handling challenges— architecting system-level solutions that balance multiple (and usually competing!) requirements. From 2017 to 2019, Ian left Synapse and worked as a Technical Project Manager at OnLogic (formerly Logic Supply) in South Burlington, VT developing ruggedized motherboards and computer chassis. Back at Synapse since the summer of 2019, Ian is currently a Mechanical Engineering Program Lead. In this role, he provides technical leadership and oversight to mechanical engineering project teams.

Ian graduated from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College with a BE in Environmental Engineering and an MS in Mechanical Engineering. His Master’s Thesis — Development and Analysis of a Fractal-like Gradual Counter-flow Heat Exchanger — was focused on designing a heat exchanger that could achieve high heat transfer rates with a low frictional penalty.

Outside of the office, Ian likes spending time outside with his family and getting out for a mountain bike ride or a fishing trip here and there with his buddies.

Ian's on the cutting Edge. Check out his posts.
