Steve Aykens joined the Synapse Product Development team in August 2015. As a Mechanical Engineer Tech Lead, Steve enjoys turning the variety of project opportunities that come to Synapse into real, actionable design ideas that meet the needs of each unique client. He joined Synapse for the community and open culture and the opportunity to work on a wide variety of products.
Before his role at Synapse, Steve worked at Kohler Company for almost 10 years. In the capacity of Mechanical Engineer and then Staff Engineer, he developed shower valves, sinks, shower doors and walls, steam generators, and a few products that involved electronic control of water delivery. This experience with a wide variety of materials and manufacturing processes serves as a solid foundation for future designs and solutions.
Steve received a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Certificate in Business. His passion for education led to service as the Vice President of the local Board of Education; He also led other initiatives designed to encourage students to consider STEM careers by demonstrating unique and exciting solutions to problems people experience every day.
In his free time, Steve enjoys long walks in the wilderness; teaching, coaching, and learning from his three sons; and enjoying today’s adventure with his high school sweetheart. Someday, Steve plans to build an off grid cabin with his family.
